Winning Roll for Newhaven Park

April 6 – Fresh from producing a South African Group II winner on Saturday in Wylie Hall, Newhaven Park were also in hot form in Singapore on Sunday with the Newhaven bred and sold sprinter Zac Spirit capturing the Kranji Sprint Sng Gr 3 for the second year in a row.

The reigning Champion Sprinter in Singapore, Zac Spirit jumped well from gate three for John Powell and always travelled like a winner, forging clear to win the 1200 metre sprint by three quarters of a length in 1min 9.93secs.

His trainer Cliff Brown said the son of Flying Spur had improved significantly compared to last year when he won the same race on his way to capturing the Group 1 Lion City Cup (1200m) and running third in the Group 1 KrisFlyer International Sprint (1200m), the same two targets he has again been set upon this year.

“He’s done a great job under the weight. I would say he’s more mature physically and mentally this year,” said Brown.

“He takes a lot of work and it would not have been possible without my team, from the syces, to Chris Bock, Tim Fitzsimmons, who work on him 24 hours. They deserve all the credit.

“JP put him in a good spot from the start, though it is always a worry if he will get through. But he was in great order and he did it like the good horse he is.

“The Lion City Cup and the KrisFlyer remain his main goals this year.”

Zac Spirit has now won 10 of 18 starts and over $1million in prizemoney.

A $140,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Newhaven draft, Zac Spirit is from well related Kidman and was snapped up by his trainer Cliff Brown, who also trained his stakes-winning three-quarter brother Zac Influence.

A stakes-placed Quest for Fame (GB) mare from the family of outstanding racehorse and sire Zeditave, Kidman is the dam of a stunning colt by Redoute’s Choice that made $720,000 for Newhaven Park earlier this year at Magic Millions where he was snapped up by James Harron Bloodstock in partnership with US buyer John Moynihan.

Newhaven Park will present another outstanding draft of 20 for the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. Click here to see them.

The winning roll may well continue at Randwick today for Newhaven Park with Golden Slipper runner-up English engaged to run in the Group I ATC Sires Produce Stakes and classy filly Peeping Group III ATC PJ Bell Stakes.
