September 28, 2014The Iliad Breaks Maiden
Scone, September 28 – Breaking his maiden at Scone last Friday was blue-blooded Redoute’s Choice gelding The Iliad, a $460,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newhaven Park draft.
Unplaced in two runs as a juvenile for Peter Moody, the Waratah Thoroughbreds owned The Iliad was transferred to Scone trainer Greg Bennett earlier this year.
After being gelded, he resumed from a spell to win over 1100 metres by a nose and will derive plenty of benefit from the run.
Bred and offered for sale by Newhaven Park, The Iliad is the first foal of royally bred Encosta de Lago mare Hades, a winning daughter of Champion 2YO Hasna.
The second foal from Hades, another colt by Redoute’s Choice, topped the Magic Millions Yearling Sale back in January when selling for $1million to US based investor Jon Kelly and Gai Waterhouse.
Named Red Knot, the colt has been entered for the 2015 Golden Slipper.
Hades has a yearling filly to follow by Redoute’s Choice and was covered again by the champion sire last spring.
