05 MAY 2012 | BY MICHAEL LEE Newcomer Speedy Ahead gave a glimpse of his potential with an impressive all-the-way debut win in the $65,000 Restricted Maiden (2&3YO) race over 1000m on Polytrack on Friday night. Sent out a clear $6 favourite on the strength of his two barrier trial placings, the Hussonet three-year-…old began well to pick a good spot on the rails before Always A Winner came spiralling over to match motors with him down the backstraight. With Joao Moreira not having to apply too much pressure, Speedy Ahead held a half-length advantage on Always A Winner (Koh Teck Huat) before gradually giving his rivals the slip at the top of the straight. Second-elect Moova Bullet (Mohd Airy) ran on for second but more than four lengths off the winner while G Strategist (Alan Ng) ran third another 4 ¾ lengths away. The winning time was a smart 58.9secs.
