November 11, 2015Newhaven Park Bred Group Two Winner
Melbourne, October 17 – For the second year in a row the Group II MRC Caulfield Sprint produced a dead heat result with classy Fastnet Rock mare Lumosty sharing the victory with the Newhaven Park bred gelding Éclair Choice.
Last year it was Bel Sprinter and Miracles of Life splitting the decision and this year the 1000 metre dash produced an equally thrilling result.
Having her first run back from a spell following a third in the Group I Tatts Tiara during the Brisbane Winter Carnival, the Robert Smerdon trained Lumosty lifted late to put her nose on the line right next to Éclair Choice for Phillip Stokes.
“He went good, terrific in fact!” said winning rider Dom Tourneur aboard Éclair Choice.
“He was there peaking and ready to go third-up today and he jot the job done.”
Éclair Choice is a four year-old gelding by California Dane from Bounce that has proven a real bargain basement winner for connections.
A $5,000 purchase for Thomas Li from the Newhaven Park draft at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, Éclair Choice has won five races and placed seven times from 15 starts earning just shy of $300,000 in prizemoney.
He is the best of five winners from Bounce, a Woodman (USA) daughter of Golden Slipper winner and Champion 2YO Burst.
