CAMPORELLA TAKES OUT THRILLING MAGIC MILLIONS – ANZ Bloodstock News 17th February 2013
White-hot jockey Jarrad Noske made it a Magic Millions double when riding exciting filly Camporella (Exceed And Excel) to success in a keenly contested Magic Millions Perth 2YO Classic (1100m) at Ascot.
After winning aboard Express Service (Danehill Express) in the Magic Millions Perth 3YO Trophy (1400m), Noske rode a confident race on Camporella, happy to sit three-wide with no cover outside the leaders from barrier 14.
The speedy Petrol Power (Snitzel) was able to cross and lead from barrier ten while favourite Princess Hallowell (Oratorio (AUS)) missed the start and settling down last in the field of 14.
Camporella, a $140,000 purchase at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sales from the draft of Newhaven Park, travelled very comfortably into the straight and was able to show tremendous determination to stave off all challenges.
Trainer Dan Morton told Wes Cameron he was delighted with the victory and went on to state his amazement at the pre-race confidence of Noske.
“All week he’s been saying if she switches off under me they won’t beat her,” Morton said.
“I’ve never seen a jockey that confident before heading into a big race.”
Trainer Ben Pearce may be warranted in saying his second placegetter Vampi Lass (Bletchley Park) was a good thing beaten. After missing the start from barrier two, the Bletchley Park filly had plenty of difficulty securing clear room early in the straight
and was not into the clear until the 150m mark.
She finished quickly to grab second on the line and justified
the high opinion her connection have of her.
Petrol Power, the top priced yearling from last year’s Magic
Millions Perth Yearling Sale ($240,000), battled extremely well along the rails to run a close-up third.
Last start winner Flying Zoe (Street Boss) ran into fourth ahead of Princess Hallowell who did well to finish fifth.
The winner Camporella (2 f Exceed And Excel – Really Flying by Real Quiet) has won twice from four starts with prize money of $171,100. She is second foal out of the Dark Jewel Stakes (Listed, 1400m) winner Really Flying. This is the family of Extradite (Bletchingly) the dam of Twiglet (Twig Moss). Her Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) half sister is catalogued for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale as Lot 475.
