September 23, 2024Newhaven bred filly glows in Tea Rose
Newhaven Park bred Autumn Glow is all the ‘Talk of the Town’ after producing another breathtaking performance to extend her record to three wins from three starts when claiming the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.
Carrying the well-known colours of co-owners Arrowfield Stud, who race the brilliant filly in partnership with Hermitage, the lightly-raced 3-year-old was ridden to victory with supreme confidence by James McDonald, adding a second black-type success to her record following her previous start victory in the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes (1200m).
Speaking after the win, Australia’s premier rider stated: “She’s very good. She’s just so economical in her action. She’s got a great constitution, good strength about her [and a] really good mind. She’ll keep improving, too.”
Such was the manner of the victory, Autumn Glow was installed as a $1.80 favourite for the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) to be run at Randwick on October 5.
Autumn Glow enhanced a proud history Newhaven Park enjoys in the Tea Rose Stakes. Formerly run over 1500m at Rosehill, three winners in five years came off our property — namely Assertive Lass, Pontal Lass and Burst.
Pontal Lass went on to win the Flight Stakes of 1995 and Assertive Lass dead-heated with Dashing Eagle the following year, while Newhaven Park-bred Flight Stakes winners also include four-time Group 1 heroine Research (1988).
Autumn Glow joined some illustrious company by winning the Tea Rose Stakes and we cannot wait to see her attempt to add the Flight Stakes at Randwick on Saturday week … hopefully joining a few Newhaven Park legends!
