More Newhaven Bred Winners

Tara Madgwick – Sunday, 30 November 2014

Probably one of the least expensive horses bred and sold by Newhaven Park, three year-old California Dane gelding Éclair Choice continued a hot winning run for Adelaide trainer Phillip Stokes when scoring at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

He ended a frustrating run of four consecutive minor placings when scoring over 1200 metres by three-quarters of a length.

A $5,000 purchase for Thomas Li from the Newhaven Park draft at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, Éclair Choice has won three races and placed four times from eight starts earning nearly $120,000 in prizemoney.

He is the best of five winners from Bounce, a Woodman (USA) daughter of Golden Slipper winner and Champion 2YO Burst.

At the other end of the scale, Fastnet Rock gelding Try Four has been racing consistently for Graham and Linda Huddy since being stepped up in distance and won his second race at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newhaven draft in 2012, Try Four is from Group I Queensland Oaks winner Allow, so is bred to appreciate a journey and is improving with maturity.

Newhaven Park is among the biggest vendors for Magic Millions 2015 with 37 yearlings catalogued by a wide range of sires. Click here to see the draft.
