December 15, 2013Metro Success for Easter Island
The Bjorn Baker stable has been in good form of late adding a first metropolitan success at Warwick Farm on Wednesday for consistent mare Easter Island, a $220,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Martin Byrne Bloodstock from the draft of Newhaven Park.
A lightly raced four year-old-daughter of Encosta de Lago, Easter Island showed good stamina to win over 2200 metres by a long head and has now won three races and placed twice from 11 starts earning over $84,000 in prizemoney.
Bred by Newhaven Park, Easter Island is one of three winners from ill-fated Danehill (USA) mare Memoir, who died in 2012.
A blue-blooded sibling to Group III winner Kaphero and stakes-winner Princesa, Memoir was a daughter of Group I STC Winfield Classic winner Kapchat, whose descendants also include Group II winner Star of Giselle and this season’s promising stakes-placed filly Solicit.
Newhaven retained the last foal of Memoir, a two year-old filly by All American called Tender that has been sent to David Hayes.
Newhaven Park have a sensational draft of 32 youngsters entered for the 2014 Magic Millions.
