January 5, 2011Magic Millions Yearlings Arrive
THE first of 1100 potential champion racehorses have arrived on the Gold Coast ahead of the Magic Millions yearling auction.
Fourth-generation Newhaven Park stud owner John Kelly has made a 24-hour journey from Boorowa in NSW with 15 yearlings for the annual sale.
Mr Kelly said he believed the high Aussie dollar may unfortunately lead to buyers from Asia, Europe, US and Dubai tightening their purse strings in 2011.
However he remained confident that yearlings from top breeding lines, like his Lot 8 bay colt, sired by the champion Redoute’s Choice, would still be snapped up for a princely sum.
“It’s about quality, not quantity,” Mr Kelly said.
“We have got a few good ones, definitely.
“Magic Millions has got an excellent record for producing great horses, not just on the race day but all over Australia and the world.”
The summer race season is in full swing on the Coast with the $100,000 Carlton Draught Goldmarket Handicap headlining a huge day of racing today.
The Magic Millions yearlings will be sold over six sessions between January 12 to 19.
