December 23, 2013Hat-Trick for Awasita
Melbourne, December 21 – Progressive filly Awasita continued her rise through the grades when reeling off her third successive win at Flemington on Saturday. The Mark Kavanagh trained daughter of Commands was always up on the pace from gate one and forged clear to win the 1000 metre Benchmark 70 event by three-quarters of a length. Bred and offered for sale by Newhaven Park at Magic Millions, Awasita was snapped up for $80,000 and runs for a syndicate of Prime Thoroughbreds owners for whom she has nearly $80,000 in winning three of four starts. “It’s a delight to have a filly that improves this much through a preparation,” Mark Kavanagh said. “We knew we had a handy one when we tipped her out last time, but she has gone from a maiden to a Flemington win on a Saturday.” Awasita is the third winner from three foals to race for Aemilee, a metropolitan winning half-sister by Grand Lodge (USA) to Group II winner Magic Albert. Aemilee has a yearling filly by Domesday and was covered again last spring by Commands.
