January 30, 2017First Winner for Delago Deluxe
Newhaven Park’s promising young sire Delago Deluxe has broken the ice with his first winner after Delago Thunder scored a strong finishing debut victory at Kembla on Saturday.
Given a good education with three previous trials under her belt, the David Payne trained filly powered to the line for Mitchell Bell to win the 1000 metre juvenile maiden by a head in a thrilling finish.
“She’s got plenty of scope and will be winning more races,” said Bell.
A $150,000 Magic Millions purchase for Blue Sky Bloodstock from the Newhaven Park draft, Delago Thunder is also the first winner for her stakes-placed dam Alezan Thunder, a daughter of current star sire Written Tycoon.
Delago Thunder runs for South African based Nordic Racing and Breeding managed by Marcus Jooste, who raced Delago Deluxe with much success in South Africa where he was the Champion 2YO Colt. Nordic Racing and Breeding purchased a number of mares to support Delago Deluxe when he retired to Newhaven Park and Alezan Thunder has been to the dual Group I winning son of Encosta de Lago for the past four seasons.
Newhaven Park sold the current yearling Delago Deluxe filly from Alezan Thunder at Magic Millions earlier this month for $60,000 to Neil Jenkinson / Matt Dunn. Delago Deluxe has seven entries for the upcoming Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, click here to see them.
