Canterbury Success for Maximilian

Sydney, August 6 – Saluting in good style at Canterbury on Wednesday was Holy Roman Emperor (IRE) five year-old Maximilian, a $60,000 Inglis Easter Session II purchase from the Newhaven Park draft.

Prepared by Bart and James Cummings, Maximilian was having his second run back from a long spell of 35 weeks and surged to the line to win the 1250 metre contest by three-quarters of a length.

Maximilian runs for So You Think’s former owners Dato Tan Chin Nam and Tunku Ahmad Yayaha and has won three of 15 starts earning over $121,000 in prizemoney.

He is the one and only foal of unraced Zabeel mare Zaharah, who comes from a family well known to Bart Cummings as she is a sister to Group I Melbourne Cup place-getter Zazabelle and daughter of Group III winner The Perfume Garden with Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Royal Regatta also on the page – all of them trained by Cummings.
