Talented Anabaa (USA) three year-old filly Court denied popular mare Belong to Many back-to-back wins in the Group Two AJC Sapphire Stakes when she overpowered her older rival to win the 1200 metre sprint by a length at Randwick on Saturday.
A Group Two winner last season as a juvenile, the Clarry Conners trained filly Court has been in good form this preparation coming into this assignment off a good third in the Group Three STC Birthday Card Quality at her previous run.
“She wasn’t that well in at the weights being a three-year-old filly against the older mares but she’s a very good three-year-old filly with a bright future,” Conners said, also indicating she would head north for the Brisbane winter carnival.
Court has the tidy record of three wins and three placings from 10 starts with prizemoney of $306,850.
Bought back by her breeders Newhaven Park for $180,000 at the 2007 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Court is from the Zeditave mare Splish, whose dam is a half-sister to former outstanding sire and Group One winner Grand Lodge (USA)..
Splish has had no luck at stud, failing to produce a live foal since Court although was covered last spring by champion sire Encosta de Lago.
Court is the fourth Australian stakes-winner for former Widden Stud based shuttle sire Anabaa (USA) this season joining Marchelle Belle, Corsair and Stokehouse.
Anabaa (USA) is now permanently based in France and his last Australian bred offspring are weanlings.
