September 18, 2013All Positive for Delago Deluxe
Newhaven Park Stud took the plunge this year in making a return to standing a stallion in Delago Deluxe and as we move through the first month of the breeding season that decision is increasingly looking like a good one.
A superbly bred, dual Group I winning son of Encosta de Lago, Delago Deluxe has taken to his new role with enthusiasm and early scans on his first mares covered are coming back positive.
“He’s a stunning looking horse and has really settled in and let down well since he arrived,” said John Kelly.
“The first mares he covered have been tested in foal, so we’re full steam ahead now for the rest of the season.”
The parallels between Delago Deluxe and ill-fated Northern Meteor, both powerhouse sprinters by Encosta de Lago, have not been lost on breeders and the continuing success of Northern Meteor has given the Newhaven team cause for optimism.
“They have very similar profiles and you can’t help but be encouraged by what we have seen from Northern Meteor, whose progeny are excelling again this spring as three year-olds,” said Kelly.
“With the likes of Zoustar and Bound for Earth, he is stamping himself as a remarkable young sire and we would like to think Delago Deluxe may have the credentials and opportunity to pick up where he has left off.”
Delago Deluxe stands at a fee of $11,000 and for more information contact John Kelly on 02 63858335
