Five-time Group 1 winner Zeditave was euthanised last week at the age of 24.
The winner of five Group 1 races, Zeditave was trained, like his sire The Judge, at Caulfield by Angus Armanasco. Racing 17 times at two and three, Zeditave won 14 times and earned $1.2 million.
At two he won the Blue Diamond Stakes and the Castlemaine Stakes at Group 1 level before training on at three to take the Futurity Stakes, William Reid Stakes and Lightning Stakes at the highest level as well as the Ascot Vale Stakes.
Zeditave retired to stud in 1989 and to date has sired 35 stakeswinners, 19 at Group level for earnings of over $36 million.
From Newhaven Park Stud, his seven Group 1 winners include brother and sister Assertive Lad and Assertive Lass, Typhoon Zed, Strategic, Chlorophyll, Ruffles and Sports.
As a broodmare sire, Zeditave currently has 20 stakeswinners including Group 1 winners Reset and Sacred Kingdom.
At stud his sire sons include Strategic (21 SW’s), Magic Albert (9 SW’s) and Zedrich (8 SW’s).
Zeditave worked across a range of pedigrees and both Strategic and Magic Albert appear to work the same way. One of five winners out of the mare Summoned, Zeditave’s stakeswinning half-sister Pampas Fire is the granddam of this season’s dual Group 1 winner Melito while another close relation is Jet Spur, whose first-crop are running this season.
