High class Anabaa (USA) mare Court posted her first stakes success as an older mare when storming home from a clear last to score a dominant win in the Listed Tatts Carrington Stakes at Randwick on New Year’s Day.
Only ninth at her previous run at Randwick in a Listed race on December 19, the Clarry Conners trained Court pulled up lame on that occasion, but looked a picture in the mounting yard prior to this assignment and raced accordingly.
Allowed to find her feet early, Court (pictured) finished with a sizzling late burst for Glyn Schofield, cruising away from Prince Braeman to win the 1100 metre dash by nearly two lengths.
“It’s good to see her win like that,” Conners said.
“She’s had her share of problems in her life but when she’s right she’s pretty smart.”
Smart she certainly is with the overall record of five wins and five placings from 16 starts with prizemoney of $484,600, career highlight wins coming in the Group Two AJC Sapphire Stakes at three and Group Two BTC 2YO Classic as a juvenile.
Bought back by her breeders Newhaven Park for $180,000 at the 2007 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Court is from the Zeditave mare Splish, whose dam is a half-sister to former outstanding sire and Group One winner Grand Lodge (USA).
Court is another top class performer for her ill-fated shuttle sire Anabaa (USA) (pictured), a regular visitor to Widden Stud until his premature death last year.
Renowned as a reliable and versatile source of Group One performers worldwide, Anabaa will have his fial crop of Australian bred yearlings selling in 2010 starting at the Gold Coast next week with 16 youngsters catalogued.
