Flying Spur featured in South Africa at the weekend when his brilliant daughter Flying Princess took out the Listed Goldfields Sprint over 1200 metres at Turffontein.
A lightly raced filly from the Charles Laird stable, Flying Princess was having just her third race start and coming into this harder event off an impressive last start win at Scottsville back in June.
She won the Black Type race by a length, providing yet another great result for her owner Markus Jooste, who has enjoyed so much success with his many Australian yearling purchases.
Purchased by Laird Racing for $310,000 from the Newhaven Park draft at the 2008 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Flying Princess is from stakes-winning Chief’s Crown (USA) mare Be My Princess from the family of Group One winner St Clemens Belle.
Be My Princess has been a regular through the Inglis sale ring, selling most recently in 2008 for $100,000 to Randwick Bloodstock and producing a filly by Danasinga later that year.
Flying Princess has the honour of becoming the 70th stakes-winner worldwide for Arrowfield Stud’s champion sire Flying Spur.
