August 22, 2016Newhaven Winners on Saturday
August 22 – Astute Brisbane trainer Robert Heathcote is no stranger to success with a good Mossman and has a likely prospect in progressive filly Cushion Pink, a $24,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newhaven Park draft.
An encouraging third on debut at the Sunshine Coast in July, Cushion Pink broke her maiden at Doomben at the start of the month and scored again at Eagle Farm on Saturday over 1600 metres as favourite.
Cushion Pink is the second winner from Danehill (USA) mare Pink Princess, a minor winner from stakes-placed Western Hour, whose grand-dam is celebrated matriarch Fanfreluche.
Robert Heathcote is the trainer of Mossman’s flagbearer Buffering and the smart Group III winner Hopfgarten, so if anyone can get the best from Cushion Pink it will be him.
Also successful was in-form Fastnet Rock gelding Try Four, who bolted away to score by six lengths over 2400 metres at Morphettville.
Now with Darren Weir, Try Four has been flying this preparation and has won his last three starts with his overall record now an impressive 10 wins from 31 starts with prizemoney topping $211,000.
A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newhaven draft in 2012, Try Four runs for well-known owners Graham and Linda Huddy.
Bred and sold by Newhaven, he is from Group I Queensland Oaks winner Allow, so is bred to appreciate a journey and the six year-old just keeps getting better with age.
Allow has a two year-old filly by Sebring that was sold by Newhaven Park at Magic Millions this year for $230,000 and she has a yearling colt by the same sire to follow.
Allow was covered last spring by Newhaven Park’s young gun sire Delago Deluxe, who will have his first runners next season.
