Career Best Win for Peeping

September 26 – The ups and downs of racing were highlighted when the Newhaven Park bred Redoute’s Choice mare Peeping bounced back from an out of character failure due to cardiac arrhythmia to post the biggest win of her career in the Group II ATC Golden Pendant Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

A Listed winner during the autumn, Peeping resumed from a winter break to score easily at Rosehill on August 15 before finishing a shock last in the Group III ATC Sheraco Stakes.

Diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia, she was sent back to the trials by her trainer Ron Quinton, turning in a pleasing effort and returned to competition for this $400,000 sprint over 1400 metres.

Ridden by her regular partner Sam Clipperton, Peeping enjoyed the run of the race from gate three and forged clear to win by three-quarters of a length.

“That was pretty special,” said Quinton.

“Her record speaks for itself, except for that last start.

“She’s been a great little filly. We’re in no rush with her and she’ll be around in the autumn.”

Peeping has won five of her 10 starts with prizemoney topping $470,000 and there are more wins in store.

Peeping is a homebred for the Kelly family of Newhaven Park and is the first foal of Group II winning Encosta de Lago mare Miss Marielle.

“It just goes to show the highs and lows of racing are wide apart,” said a delighted Tom Kelly.

“We’re so proud of her today. Ron was flabbergasted after last start. He’s done a magnificent job. He’s a genius.”

Miss Marielle was bought by Newhaven as a tried horse at the 2009 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale for $250,000.

A Listed winner when she was purchased, Miss Marielle excelled for new trainer Joe Pride and added the Group II STC Hill Stakes and Group III AJC Craven Plate to her resume in her new ownership.

Miss Marielle has a two year-old colt by Redoute’s Choice that was sold by Newhaven Park at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $475,000 to China Horse Club/Michael Wallace Bloodstock.

Miss Marielle has a yearling colt by More Than Ready (USA) to follow and has foaled this spring producing a colt by Sebring.
