April 14, 2015Winning Double for Newhaven
April 4 – Stakes-placed as a three year-old, progressive four year-old Fastnet Rock mare Refer bounced back to her best form at Caulfield on Saturday to score a tenacious win.
Prepared by Heath Conners, Refer powered home from back in the field after drawing wide to score a last stride short head win in the open event for mares over 1400 metres.
A $160,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Reavill Farm draft, Refer runs for the Newhaven Park Syndicate and will be a great addition to the Kelly family’s broodmare band when her racing days are done.
A three time winner of over $114,000 in prizemoney, Refer is a full sister to Group I placed Electric Fusion and is from Silken Song, a half-sister to stakes-winner Danasia, the dam of Group I winner Zabrasive and to the dam of Group I winner Cheeky Choice.
Refer was the second winner to carry the Newhaven colours to victory in the past couple of days with two year-old Ad Valorem (USA) filly Valuchy scoring at Gosford on Thursday for the Clarry Conners stable.
She motored clear to win by two lengths at her second start and looks to have above average ability.
Retained to race after passing in at the sales, Valuchy is the third winner for Tuchuzy, a daughter of Group III winning Marauding mare Tripping.
Tuchuzy has a colt foal by Newhaven Park’s young sire Delago Deluxe and is back in foal to him again.
