February 18, 2015High Hopes for Newhaven Park’s Peeping
Tara Madgwick – Wednesday, 18 February 2015
Resuming from a spell as a short priced favourite at Randwick on Wednesday was the Newhaven Park homebred Peeping, who gave her older rivals a galloping lesson when coasting home to win as she pleased. The three year-old daughter of Redoute’s Choice looked good when beating highly rated Abbey Road on debut at Hawkesbury last September and was spelled after finishing third to Pierro’s sister Snow White at Warwick Farm at the end of October. Redoute’s ChoiceTuned up with a recent trial by her trainer Ron Quinton, Peeping travelled behind the leaders for Sam Clipperton before accelerating away to take the 1100 metre Benchmark 70 event for fillies and mares by two and a half lengths.
“She’s a very nice filly and I’ve always told Tom (her owner Tom Kelly) that she was a racehorse,” said Quinton. “Of course at this time of year you’re looking at the nicer fillies races for her. “She’s a very sensible filly and her mother got over a bit of ground, so who knows how far she can go.” Peeping has won two of her three starts and is entered for the Group I ATC Queen of the Turf Stakes and Australian Oaks.
Peeping is a homebred for the Kelly family of Newhaven Park and is the first foal of Group II winning Encosta de Lago mare Miss Marielle, who was bought as a tried horse at the 2009 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale for $250,000. A Listed winner when she was purchased, Miss Marielle excelled for new trainer Joe Pride and added the Group II STC Hill stakes and Group III AJC Craven Plate to her resume in her new ownership.
Miss Marielle has a yearling colt by Redoute’s Choice that will be offered by Newhaven Park as Lot 56 at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. He is one of a stellar draft of 20 that will travel to Sydney, the consignment featuring some outstanding youngsters by a wide range of popular sires.
