June 16, 2014Windrunner – One to Watch
As a half-sister to a Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner from a former brilliant juvenile stakes-winner, this filly is bred to have a wing on every foot and she showed that at Canberra on Friday.
Prepared by David Vandyke, three year-old Commands filly Windrunner, ran like the wind to thrash her rivals in the 1000 metre maiden winning by five lengths at her second start.
Second on debut in a maiden at Newcastle last August, Windrunner has been given time to mature and has been unbeaten in three barrier trials since then so was sent out a red hot favourite for her return.
A $160,000 Magic Millions purchase for Vandyke Racing, Windrunner was bred and offered for sale by Newhaven Park and is a half-sister to this year’s $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Unencumbered, who was also bred and sold by the Kelly family.
Windrunner is the third winner from stakes-winning More Than Ready (USA) mare Blizzardly, whose current yearling filly by Bernardini (USA) sold for $300,000 at Inglis Easter this year to Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Australasia.
Blizzardly has a weanling filly by Commands and is due to foal this spring to Denman.
