January 14, 2014Magic Millions Winner Bred and Sold by Newhaven
January 11 – Newhaven Park have had plenty of reason to celebrate over the last few days having sold this year’s Magic Millions sale topper and bred and sold outstanding colt Unencumbered, winner of the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
“We would never have dared to dream of such a result, both selling the Redoute’s Choice – Hades colt for $1 million and then Unencumbered coming out and winning the feature race,” said John Kelly.
“It has been a humbling 24 hrs. As most people in this industry know there are a lot of ups and downs so these times are really rewarding for all of our staff, our clients and our family.
“I would like to congratulate Bjorn Baker on a great training effort and also the connections of Unencumbered, he is an exciting horse and we look forward to his future.”
Bred by Newhaven Park, which has been the source of current stakes-winners Champagne Cath and Charlie Boy as well as South African Group I winner Wyllie Hall, Unencumbered was bought by Bjorn Baker for just $70,000.
The colt has since won five of six starts earning $1.7 million in prizemoney for his lucky group of owners, capping his rise through the ranks with a powerful three-quarter length win over quality filly Oakleigh Girl in the rich MM 2YO Classic.
“We will give Unencumbered a break now as he has had six starts,” a delighted trainer Bjorn Baker said.
“But we will have to look at the Golden Slipper in April.
“Attitude. Attitude. That has been the key with Unencumbered. He has just kept getting better and he has been so relaxed about it.”
Unencumbered is the second winner from stakes-winning More Than Ready (USA) mare Blizzardly, a former brilliant two year-old, who won the Listed AJC Keith Mackay Stakes and placed in the Group II STC Magic Night Stakes.
Blizzardly has a yearling filly by Bernardini (USA) that is entered for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and has a filly foal by Commands.
