October 21, 2013Second Win for Easter Island Gosford
October 21 –
The Bjorn Baker stable is in hot form at present and the exciting young trainer struck at Gosford on Sunday with Easter Island, a $220,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Martin Byrne Bloodstock from the draft of Newhaven Park. A lightly raced four year-old-daughter of Encosta de Lago, Easter Island was always in contention and fought on strongly to win the 1600 metre contest by half a length, her second win from eight starts. Bred by Newhaven Park, Easter Island is one of three winners from ill-fated Danehill (USA) mare Memoir, who died in 2012. A blue-blooded sibling to Group III winner Kaphero and stakes-winner Princesa, Memoir was a daughter of Group I STC Winfield Classic winner Kapchat, whose descendants also include Group II winner Star of Giselle and this season’s promising stakes-placed filyl Solicit. Newhaven retained the last foal of Memoir, a two year-old filly by All American called Tender that has been sent to David Hayes.
