October 17, 2013More Newhaven Winner
October 16 – The winning run being enjoyed by graduates of Newhaven Park has continued with exciting two year-old Unencumbered scoring on debut at Randwick last Saturday and Group I South African Derby winner Wylie Hall resuming from a spell to win at Turffontein in South Africa on Tuesday night.
An impressive barrier trial winner at Rosehill on October 1, the Bjorn Baker trained son of Testa Rossa ran up to that good form to win the 1000 metre dash by half a length, stamping himself as a bright prospect for the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January.
“He’s a very nice horse with a great pedigree and you can get excited about horses like these with the Magic Millions coming up,” said Bjorn Baker.
Bred by Newhaven Park, which has been the source of recent stakes-winners Champagne Cath and Charlie Boy, Unencumbered was offered at Magic Millions where he was bought by Bjorn Baker for $70,000.
Unencumbered is the second winner from stakes-winning More Than Ready (USA) mare Blizzardly, a former brilliant two year-old, who won the Listed AJC Keith Mackay Stakes and placed in the Group II STC Magic Night Stakes.
Blizzardly has a yearling filly by Bernardini (USA) and is due to foal this spring to Commands.
Talented Redoute’s Choice four year-old Wylie Hall made an impressive return to racing after a winter break, carrying 61.5 kg to victory over 1400 metres in the non-Black Type Pinnacle Stakes at Turffontein.
Wylie Hall beat the hot favourite Whiteline Fever by a long neck and looks set for another fruitful campaign.
Prepared by Weiho Marwing for Michael Leaf, Wylie Hall has won four of nine starts with highlight wins in the Group I South African Derby and Listed Turffontein Derby Trial.
A $205,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Newhaven Park, Wylie Hall is a half-brother to Group I winning sprinter Absolute Champion and is one of seven winner from Ideal Planet mare Beauty Belle, whose family features Group I winners Grand Armee, Drum, Anamato and Dealer Principal.
Newhaven Park sold a yearling colt by Encosta de Lago from Beauty Belle at Magic Millions this year for $120,000 to Apollo Ng and the star producer has another colt to follow by Redoute’s Choice’s half-brother Manhattan Rain.
