May 21, 2012Invest on Track for Second Oaks
Tara Madgwick – Saturday, 19 May 2012
Already a winner of the Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks, the Clarry Conners trained filly Invest showed she will be the horse to beat in the upcoming Group I BRC Queensland Oaks with a powerful win in the Group III BRC Doomben Roses on Saturday.
Having her first run since her Adelaide triumph, Invest settled back in sixth place and surged to the line for Peter Mertens to win the 2000 metre staying test by a short neck over New Zealand Oaks winner Miss Artistic.
A $450,000 purchase for BBA Ireland from the Coolmore draft at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Invest runs for the Kelly family’s Newhaven Park Stud Syndicate and has the overall record of three wins and five placings from 14 starts with prizemoney of $441,592.
Bred by John and Deb Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds, Invest is the second foal of Group I AJC Flight Stakes winner Unearthly, a daughter of champion sire Zabeel from the family of Group I winners Innocent King, Ideal Planet and Our Planet.
The Camilleri’s purchased Unearthly on the advice of James Bester as a yearling for $360,000 in New Zealand and she has certainly proven to be a great buy having won a Group I event and now produced a Group I winner.
Unearthly has a yearling filly by Street Cry (IRE), a weanling colt by Fastnet Rock and was covered last spring by More Than Ready (USA).
Invest is one of 72stakes-winners worldwide for Dehere, who shuttled to Australia for many years for a variety of farms before being on-sold in 2010 to the National Stud of Turkey.
